We all know I love reading fantasy. Magic, creatures and an internal battle between good and evil. It sounded interesting, so I was happy to receive an ARC.

Magic, mystery and complex characters.
Evenfall follows Ember, a girl who wakes up in an unfamiliar place with no idea how she got there. Shortly after her arrival, everyone she meets calls her the “One” or the “saviour”, but she has no idea why. There is also a “monster” with sapphire eyes who wants her and again she has no idea why. However, what she lacks in knowledge of her situation she makes up for in determination.
In chapter one we also meet Ada Aldane and her dog Lyra. Lyra is intelligent and adorable. Ada is a little impulsive but is a talented Mage. She has been raised to believe the Crescent Prince is evil and that Ember is their only hope at freedom.
The Crescent Prince Mordecai is a ruthless leader who slaughters anyone who dares use more magic than they are allocated. However, there is more to him and his reasons for wanting Ember than anyone could possibly imagine.
The story hit the ground running and did not have any obviously lulls in the pace. A constant flow of action and/or important information being learned made it easy to read in one sitting. I liked the world of Somraque and the magic the magicians, illusionists and mages had. The history of the world was interesting and relevant and it was scattered throughout the story nicely.
While I did enjoy the writing style and the complexity of the characters, I personally did not feel a strong connection to Ember. That made it difficult for me to form that emotional attachment I like to have with the main character. However, I thought it was an enjoyable read and I recommend fans of fantasy worlds and magic give this one a read!
