Review – Night of Blood and Beauty by C.S. Johnson

When you have read and enjoyed the first two books in series, a companion novella is a brilliant gift from the author!

Title: Night of Blood and Beauty

Genre: Historical Fiction – Romance

Age Classification: Adult

Publisher: C.S. Johnson

Release: February 21, 2018

Available Format(s): PaperbackKindle Ebook

A companion novella to the Order of the Crystal Dagger series, this short story follows Amir and explores his love for Eleanor, the mother of Kingdom of Ash and Soot‘s Eleanora.

Set before the first novel in the series, the novella provides more details on a few key characters. I loved the history lesson and how it revealed more about the connections between the characters. It was also enlightening to read about the mother everyone sees when they look at Eleanora.

Night of Blood and Beauty definitely lives up to its title. The story plays out during a single day (and night) and there is most certainly blood in the action scenes as well as beauty from our main characters. The action scenes are just as intense as they are in the novels, but there is a much greater focus on love in this novella. I did appreciate that the majority of the book focused on respect and caring more about the person rather than whether or not that person likes them back.

Star Rating: ☆☆☆☆

It was a cute, quick read that gave me a hint of romance without compromising on the undercover, life or death action I love in the main series.
