My Zany Bookshelf: Birthday Books

Happy Birthday to ME!

Where is the pause button? It was not all that long ago I was enjoying nap time in kindergarten, but all of a sudden I am juggling a nine-to-five, university, volunteering, my blog and writing a novel!
How do I have time to read? No idea, but I manage to squish it in because I love reading and it is a little time out from all the crazy of life.

So what better way to celebrate my birthday than books?
This post will contain books I have received as birthday presents over the years, including this year, and books that have a special birthday connection.

Also, be sure to scroll to the bottom of the post for something extra special!

It’s My Birthday – Helen Oxenbury

“It’s my birthday and I’m going to make a cake.”
This is a picture book about a child’s birthday and the character wanting to make a cake. This little adventure to collect the ingredients and make the cake is always the first thing I think of when someone mentions birthdays!

Enchantée – Gita Trelease

This one I got from my brilliant bookish bestie for my birthday this year. I have had this on my wishlist for a while because it is set in Paris 1789 and it has MAGIC! Historical fantasy has become a much loved favourite of mine, so I am hoping to read this book in the very near future.

Peter Pan – J.M. Barrie

This one was from my mum a couple years ago because I loved the story of Peter Pan and have always been a fan of the naughty pixie that is Tinkerbell, but did not yet own my own copy.

Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom – Leigh Bardugo

Another from the bookish bestie who was determined I would read these books. I still have not *hides* but only because I have been a very busy bee and would rather wait until I have time off before I dive into a world that I have to love or our friendship may cease to exist!

My Birthday Land Adventure – Margaret Gibson

This is a personalised book from a company called IdentityDirect that was ordered for me by a family friend many years ago. The story features butterflies, a dragon and a rainbow, but the best part is you can make the birthday person the main character and even add in their friends names for the supporting characters.
If you are interested in personalised adventure books for kids, here is a link to IdentityDirect’s range.

My favourite birthday so far probably has to be my 20th. Celebrations started the day before in a 4 hour maths lecture with so much cake that my friends all surprised me with, continued on to the entire class going out to dinner and then on to the local pub, me crashing on the floor of one of my friends in student accommodation, waking up mid morning on my birthday and making it home in time to go for lunch with my family. And then wrapping it all up with all my friends from school days, uni days and work all going out for dinner and drinks and somehow us all making it back to my house to continue the party. It was great because it was just a massive weekend filled with friends from all areas of my life at the time.
Three books I would love to own are
    – Frankly in Love by David Yoon
    – Dry by Neal Shusterman and Jarrod Shusterman
    – The Boy who Steals Houses by C.G. Drews
