The third book in the Lunar Chronicles sees the return of our favourite fugitives trying to save the world, only it is not exactly going to plan.

Cress is not entirely a new character. We actually sort of met her in Cinder though we did not know exactly who she was at that stage. A tech wiz who has been isolated since she was a child, Cress knows how to hack any system but not how to interact with others. She also has a kind heart and realises that Levana’s plans will not end well for many.

When Cinder, Thorn, Scarlet and Wolf attempt a rescue mission that goes wrong, the group is split up. With Scarlet up on Lunar, Thorn and Cress crashing to Earth and another Lunar on board the ship/Iko with Cinder and Wolf, a revised plan is needed. The new plan involves Cinder seeking out the man who helped her escape and the one who locked her up.

It is difficult to say much else about the story without spoiling the previous two books, but I will put it to you this way; I am pretty sure this is my favourite book of the series! There were moments I wanted to scream, cry or both, but also many moments where I was smiling as I read the words.

The way this series has been written with little Easter eggs and foreshadowing is incredible. I am also loving the character growth and how the dynamics of the group(s) are evolving. As with the past two books, the writing and overall plot is incredible, though I also applaud how the multi-P.O.V. was executed. It could have been confusing or messy if done wrong, but I personally think Meyer did very well to keep the book flowing and ensure the reader was still informed of what all the main characters were up to.

Star Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆

I struggled to put this series down, but I made myself take my time to read Cress because I knew from the first few chapters that this was a book I wanted to savour.

For those who have read the Lunar Chronicles, which character was your favourite?

Until next time bibliophiles!
